Curtis Mortenson, MD

Medical Director

Dr. Curtis Mortenson is a 2001 graduate of Kodiak High School and has returned to his hometown after completing his family medicine residency in Anchorage. Dr. Mortenson has consistently been recognized for his passion for supporting both his patients and his colleagues, having been awarded the “Ideal Physician” award by his peers at Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine and the “Janette Hermiston Award” after his first year of residency for his passion for learning and patient care. At the conclusion of residency, he was awarded the “Society of the Teachers of Family Medicine Award,” recognized by the faculty for his passion for teaching.  Dr. Mortenson, a board certified family medicine physician, serves the Kodiak community through his work in the community health center and the emergency room. His primary medical interests include population health management, minor surgical procedures, and obstetrics.

Mimi Nguyen, MD

Dr. Mimi Nguyen attended undergraduate and medical school at the University of California, San Diego. She completed her family medicine residency at Swedish Family Medicine - First Hill in Seattle where she worked at a medical home and was involved in primary care innovation. Her passions for underserved medicine, preventive medicine and full spectrum primary care led her to beautiful Kodiak. She is excited and honored by the opportunity to care for the diverse population of the island and to provide holistic, evidence-based care to all individuals. Her other medical interests include women's health, hospital medicine, population health, and quality improvement.

Nicholas Napoli, MD

Dr. Napoli was raised in the Northeast where re received his Medical Degree from Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and his Masters in Public Health from John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Inspired by medical student electives in Seattle, WA and Dillingham, AK, he moved to the Pacific Northwest to complete his Family Medicine residency and a fellowship in High-Risk Obstetrics through the Swedish First Hill Family Medicine program in Seattle. After fellowship, he volunteered in Malawi, training local doctors and nurses with the U.S. Peace Corps and is now excited to work at KCHC. Dr. Napoli enjoys providing full-spectrum primary care and is especially interested in maternal health, community medicine and caring for patients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds.

Claire Frost, MD

Debra Cyphert, NP

Debra Cyphert, FNP-BC was born and raised in New Mexico. She volunteered as a teen-ager in Mexico, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic assisting with healthcare promotion, immunizations, and sanitation. She received her Associate degree of Nursing from Central NM Community College and a Bachelors and Master’s degree of Nursing and Family Nurse Practitioner at the University of NM, College of Nursing.

Debra has over 13 years of experience as a nurse practitioner and 15 years as a registered nurse. The last 5 years she owned and provided care for a rural family practice clinic on the Eastern Plains of New Mexico with her son, daughter, and grandchildren.

Debra’s enjoyment of rural settings began while spending every summer with her grandparents on Native American reservations in New Mexico where they lived fishing, gardening, and exploring. She and her husband, CJ, have fallen in love with Kodiak’s beauty and its’ hardworking, friendly inhabitants.    

Jenna Walker, NP

Jenna Walker is from southern West Virginia where she received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Mountain State University. She developed a passion for cardiology and spent the next three years doing travel nurse assignments on the East coast in interventional cardiology, vascular surgery, and interventional radiology. She decided it was time to broaden her scope of practice and received her Master of Science in Nursing from Walden University. She volunteered at Kodiak Baptist Mission for the last four summers and knew Kodiak was where she wanted to practice medicine and serve such a diverse unique community.
